REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) installed 16 new Indonesian ambassadors, extraordinary and plenipotentiary, at the State Palace, here, on Monday. During the ceremony, Jokowi was flanked by First Lady Iriana, Vice President M Jusuf Kalla and his spouse, and Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi.
Other high-ranking officials attending the ceremony were Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Chief of the Indonesian Police General Tito Karnavian, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifudin, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, and Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) Triawan Munaf.
The newly installed ambassadors were Abdul Kadir Jaelani (Ambassador to Canada and ICAO), Abdurachman Budiono Dimas Wahab (to Hungary), Al Busyra Basnur (to Ethiopia and Djibouti as well as African Union), Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir (to France and Monaco, as well as UNESCO), Cheppy T Wartono (to Mexico, Belize, El Savador, and Guatemala), Dewa Made Juniarta Sastrawan (to Zimbabwe and Zambia), Edy Yusup (to Brazil), Hajriyanto Thohari (to Lebanon), Julang Pujianto (to Suriname and Guyana), and Lalu Muhammad Iqbal (to Turkey).
Prominent figures appointed as ambassadors were Mahendra Siregar (to the United States), Muhammad Anshor (to Chile), Siti Nugraha Mauludiah (to Poland), Sunaryo Kartadinata (to Uzbekistan and Kirgizstan), Tri Tharyat (to Kuwait), and Wajid Fauzi (to Syria).
