OCA announces first doping case in Asian Games 2018

A Turkmenistan wrestler fails urine test for doping.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced the first doping case at the Asian Games 2018. The doping scandal ensnared wrestler from Turkmenistan Rustem Nazarov.

The athlete was found to have committed a doping violation. He failed a urine test for a banned substance ahead of the competition on Aug 17, the council noted in a press statement released on Friday.

Nazarov has been disqualified from the Asian Games 2018. His results during the competition held on Aug 19 have been annulled.

He had competed in the men's 57-kg freestyle event and was eliminated in the knockout stage.

In the urine sample, the OCA Medical Commission found furosemide. It was one of the most commonly used diuretics and is considered as a doping agent in sports.

Furosemide is on the World Anti-Doping Agency list for banned substances. The Turkmenistan Olympic Committee and Nazarov have received an official notification from the OCA Medical Commission.
